Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>hardware (more info?)

Hi All,

This is on a Dell Latitude D610 running XP.

Problem is that the drive does not recognise newly inserted media.

Device manager is not indicating a problem.

Have updated the CD/DVD drive firmware from the Dell website without
success.

If the laptop is put into suspend, or rebooted with media in the drive it
works ok, but insert any media (have tried various) when the laptop is
already on and the drive is not recognising it is there. Drive doesn't
spin up or anything. Suspend or reboot the laptop and it spins up and media
is read fine.

Any ideas please, I'm stumped. In fact not sure whether this is hardware or
software, so apologies if it turns out to be the latter.

Regards.
Bill.
