The problems/solutions may be different for Windows 2K and XP. However, you
may need to check with the DVD drive manufacturers so as to see if there
are/were firmware updates to the DVD drives. Sometimes, the manfacturers
may publish updates to the firmware to fix problems with their drives.
firmware -- embeded software in a chip somewhere on the device (drive) which
controls how the device is to react when accessed.
You can update most drive firmwares in a similar method
like you do BIOS updates. Follow the update directions exactly.
Please also note: warranties do not cover failed firmware
flash updates.
