Hello
Is it possible that 'ordinary' users could run defrag without admin rights?
I want to give some of our domain users option to be able to run defrag on
WinXP machines without giving them admin privileges? Can this be done in any
way?
Thank you in advance,
Regards Miha >> Stay informed about: Defrag without admin rights |

You could try using the mmc snap-in. just click start, run and then type
mmc.

Yes I know, but if I do this, I need to give them local admin password so
they could run mmc or defrag with run-as options.
Is there any other way to just simply set that 'ordinary' users could use
defrag without any additional rights or typing run-as ...

you can make so a program automatically runs as administrator, without
giving out the password.

Yes, this could be an option, but it is possible to encrypt local admin
password in a batch files that run-as defrag with admin rights, so that user
will not see password in the file?

batch files show passwords as little circles, so no the user will not be
able to see the password.

Derik thanks for a replay. So far as I know you can make batch files that
calls a program with run-as parameters where you can add username and after
runnin it it prompts you for a password.
How can be achieved like you said that password will be in the batch file
and encrypted 'little circles'? Do I need any 3rd party tool?
Thanks again.
