I see the account in %systemdrive%\Documents and
> Settings\old user account name and listed in the Control Panel User Accounts applet. I don't see it listed in Administrative Tools\Computer Management\Users and Groups.

So the following happens: I sign on as my son who was an Administer, go to
the Control Panel, then User Accounts and try and delete his wife's account
(who was also an Administrator, but I have changed to be a Limited User.) I
get the panel that asks me if 1) I want to delete the account but keep the
files, or 2) Delete the whole account. If I choose either 1) or 2) the system
just locks up and I have to kill it with the Alt+Ctrl+Del keys. This then
tells me that "msft" (?) is not responding.

I went into Safe mode and surprise only three accounts show up in the
Control Panel: Administer (who is s/he ???), my son, and Guest. No mention of
my son's wife's name or Grandad (me !). The PC I'm now using is a
hand-me-down from my son. So I obviously can't delete my daughter in law's
name from Safe mode !

Any more suggestions ? Pretty sad that MS software doesn't do such a simple
thing.

I tried your suggestion, but id didn't work. Please see above. More
suggestions gratefully accepted !!
