Post subject: Files transfer from Windows 98SE with Word 97 to WindowsXP

I am trying to move a friend's files from his Windows 98SE to my Windows XP so that I can make a CD of is files for him. Will my computer be able to read his files. He has a zip drive and I do not, I will need to get an external zip drive and I am relectant to do it if my computer can not read his files intact. I can always print his files and scan them into my computer but that is laborious. Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks
