On my other computer, no matter what user name it logs on to, it
automatically restarts right after the screen shows. I tired the safe mode
and it still did the same. Any ideas how to fix this?

it can be caused by a virus. I recommend you to reinstall windows and follow
the security tips in windows xp home page.

Hi,

Yes I agree. It sounds like the Blaster Virus. Download the free Virus tools from http://www.symantec.com and see if you can find the right one.

You may need to buy a Norton Antivirus cd to boot from though as it seems like you can't get into windows long enough to scan.

Cheers,

Lara

Original post for clarity:

"On my other computer, no matter what user name it logs on to, it
automatically restarts right after the screen shows. I tired the safe
mode and it still did the same. Any ideas how to fix this?"

Although this problem may be caused by a virus, it does not sound like
Sasser or Blaster. At this point with so little information provided by
the OP, reinstalling Windows is not the next troubleshooting step.
Reinstalling Windows is a *last* resort.

To the OP: Since you haven't provided much information (eg., does the
computer actually restart or just cycle through the login screen; text
of error messages, if any), here are some general items to check:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q320299" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q320299</a> -

Are you able to get into Safe Mode? Last Known Good Configuration? What
changed before things went sour? Did you have a current version (not
earlier than 2003) antivirus installed using updated definitions? Did
you remove some malware?

If the latter, see this Lavasoft article:

If you want more help, please post back with more details.
