I would like to disable the "open messenger main window
when messenger starts" but it is grayed out.
I would like messenger to ask me for the password as
opposed to just clicking on "sign in" and it opens MSN IM.
Anyone is then able to access my contacts.

Any suggestions?

Ken

Greetings Ken,

If it's grayed out, then you've attempted to uninstall it and it's probably starting with
another application. Do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton
Antivirus added a new "instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Messenger
and cause it to also keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the
Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open
Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger
and click OK.

Regardless, you can stop this auto-sign in and remove your saved Passport by clicking the
Start Button, then click the Control Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the Control Panel.
Select your account name, and then on the left side of the screen, under Related Tasks, click
'Manage my Network Passwords'. In the window that opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport)
entry and click 'Remove'.

The Norton's method you suggested didn't work because
there was no MSN IM there (only Windows messenger) But,
the deletion of the Passprts.net did work! Thank you
very much!!!
