Hi. The the CD/DVD drive on my son's laptop stopped recognizing CDs,
(just makes noise) but DVDS run fine from the drive.
So, for other reasons we want to reinstall WindowsXP, but as you know it
is on a CD. Can somebody tell me how to accomplish, making a
Windows Setup Boot DVD from the Windows Setup Boot CD to DVD

at starting press "del" and make first startup drive as cd rom and you can
format the windows and you install a fresh copy

No, the point is the cd drive only sees dvd media. It hangs if I put a
CD in it. So I want to copy all the files off xp setup, and put them on
a DVD, but it needs the capability to boot.

He is saying his drive won't read CDs anymore, only DVDs.

Have you tried making an image of the disk then burning it back to a DVD?
It might work if you just copy all the files from the CD and write them to a
DVD.
