I do not have a solution to this problem, but I wanted to chime in here
because I too am having the same problem. It started after I allowed the SP1
update. I have observed something that may be related to the problem, it is
that one of the services that compmgmt uses is not starting, the Ktmrm
service is failing to start. However, because of the problem I am unable to
open the event viewer to get any details on what the cause of the actual
problem is. I attempted to fix this using system restore, but the restore
fails. Also, I do not have a valid backup that I could revert to. So, I
really need a way to fix this issue, because I do not want to re-install.
