I purchased a stand alone full version of XP Pro service pack 2 and still
have the entire package/CD etc. It was installed on a computer that is
having problems and will be exchanged for a new computer. What do I need to
do so that I can reinstall this OS on another computer? Thanks

Remove it from the old computer by formatting the drive with XP. Then
simply install on the new PC. Once install is done it may activate
automatically over the internet. If that fails, choose the option to
activate by phone instead. That will require you to make a toll free phone
call and should take no more than five minutes. It's a pretty painless
process.

The important issue is whether it's OEM or retail. A retail copy can be
transferred to another computer. Just remove it from the computer on which
it's installed and install on the other system, then activate either through
the internet or if need be, by a phone call.

An OEM version is tied to the first computer on which it's installed. If
that computer dies the license dies with it. It can't be moved to another
computer or sold unless the computer on which it was installed is sold with
it.
