Office 2000 apps running very slow under win XP

I have several Pentium 4 3.2 pcs running win xp pro and Office 2k pro that I
have deployed to replace win 2k pcs running Office 2000 pro. We are also
moving from Mcafee to Sophos. Some of the new pcs have the Sophos. A number
of my people are complaining that Office is running really slow for them on
the XP computers. When I rehook them back to their win2k pcs they are fine.
Why are the newer and more powerful pcs running slower? Any suggestions would
be most appreciated

Latest pcs also run lot of applications. Check what all application are running and how much resource are they taking in the task manager.
Clear any unnecessary applications from loading at the startup. Clear all services which are not required.
Delete template file normal.dot from the system drive. If normal.dot is corrupt, it will slow or freeze Microsoft word.
When the system is slow, check if the hdd (harddrive) lights are blinking heavy. Possible too much of hdd access. Harddrive might be badly fragmented, Run defragger on the harddrive.
