Outlook Compress messages whiped out my inbox

You know how Outlook Express every so often asks you if you want to compress
messages.
So far I've always said yes to this question and never had any problems.
To day it did the same and this time it left my inbox empty!
I opened up the recycle bin and selected everything that was there but my
inbox is still empty.

What can I do to get my inbox messages back?
