Some pictures in the "My PIctures" folder show small versions of the
pictures, others show an icon to click on to get the picture. As far as
I remember, I saved those pictures exactly the same way--how can I get
all of them to show the small version of the picture?

The file extension is either jpeg or bitmap on those that show up as a
picture. The others just have File or something plus file attached to
them.

Load the other files into Irfanview, one-at-a-time, and convert them to
jpg or bmp. I don't know for sure, but Windows may not be able to
handle .tif and some other file formats in thumbnail view.

Click on View and then select Thumbnails.

It's free software you can download and use. Although you can't edit
graphics with it, there are many usable features.

IrfanView is excellent freeware, find it through Google.
Windows XP does handle thumbnails for .TIF files.
