Thanks. Found the problem... based on some of the other posted solutions to
semi-similar problems I swapped out the memory and things started to work.
Stupid generic memory!!! While the PC tool PC2700, I had a stick of PC3200
(generic) and figured it should be even more likely to work in the 333 FSB
(166*2) application... especially if I made sure that the BIOS did not kick
up the speed.... well, after swapping out for some Kingston PC2700 the
Repair Install worked. I then swapped back the generic memory and, while it
booted up, it was FLAKY as all get out. Ended up switching back to the
Kingston. So much for saving a little $$.
