Post subject: Roxio DVD burner sw - lost writable drives

Hi

I have a problem with Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 and Windows XP

The programme stopped working - it kept locking up when I tried to burn discs - it had worked fine up until recently.
Nothing else significant has changed on my system so I thought that the software must have become corrupted so I uninstalled it and reinstalled.

The problem then was that the programme could no longer see any writable drives. (I have 2 in the computer - a Sony IDE DVDRW and an HP SCSI CDRW). The drives could still be used to read discs but not to write them.
I also use TMPGEnc DVD Author and this has a DVD writing module but that couldn't see the drives either.
Roxios website says that this is a known problem and has two utilities for registry fixes but in my case they didn't work.
Roxios technical (for want of a better word) support (ROFL) said sorry, the software is more than twelve months old and they don't support it.
(Imagine if you bought a car and just over a year later you couldn't get it repaired because the manufacturer no longer supported that model!)

So, can anybody suggest a way to get my recorders back on line?

As an aside, I've used Easy CD and DVD Creator for a while and had problems a while ago when it clashed with Norton Internet Security. Symantec blamed Roxio. Roxio blamed Symantec. Both have technical support which sucks big time. In the end I ditched Norton and switched to AVG/ZoneAlarm.
Now it looks like I'll ditch Roxio. What CD/DVD burner software would others in the forum recommend? I've seen CD Burner XP Pro and Deep Burner, both of which are free and look good. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

- Tony
