Post subject: Screwed up using transfer wizard
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>basics (more info?)

I was having issues with a new Dell Dim 8400 with XP Pro SP2 installed.

Turned out the issue was from the Transfer Settings Wizard. Some of the
stuff
transferred form the old computer was no longer valid (Office XP instead of
Office 2003 Educational Version), etc. My error. Sad

This totally screwed my add/remove programs. Tried to fix it by simply
uninstalling the programs listed (it just removes them from the list, but
only temporarily?), could not make
it stay fixed (can't find where these non-existent programs are actually
listed in the registry so I can delete them), read about reinstalling XP and
it bombed saying it could not find my CD Rom drive.

So, the issue now is the programs that are invalid in the add/remove
programs
grouping (my fault) as well as having a partial install of XP which causes
the computer
to now have two boot offerings, the normal one plus the failed install of
XP. (again my fault)

How do I fix these two issues the easiest way?

Thanks

You might try using System Restore to take your system back to a time prior
to when you used the wizard, Start\All Programs\Accessories\System
Tools\System Restore.

Hi Gary ... All i can recommand is , because you have a brand name computer
( Dell ) they usually have there own tech forum site and its the best place
to go to for tech support ... Unless once at there site they recommand you
try Microsoft tech support , this would be the only time i would ... If you
like here is the dell forum site below , try them out first always and see
if they can help
