Post subject: Sound Blaster Audigy LS Card and Headphones

I purchased the above sound card and one spec I liked said that I could hook
my headphones directly into the card. Right now, I have to plug them into
the speaker which works but is awkward. I can't find a place on the jacks
now that it is installed to plug my headphones into. This is what the help
disk says about where to plug them in:
Stereo headphones (32-ohm load) support on Front Line-Out
On the FRONT line-out? What does this mean? Only the back of the card
sticks out or what am I missing? Thanks for any help provided. |

Hi,
The Front Line out is colored green and the Rear out is colored black.
The pink is for microphone, the blue is for line-in and the orange is for
SPDIF.
In your case, use the green port.
1. Orange
Analog/Digital Out jack Connects to external digital devices or digital
speaker systems for 6-channel or compressed AC-3 SPDIF output.
Also connects to 5.1 analog speaker systems for Center and Subwoofer (LFE)
analog channels.
2. Blue
Line In jack Connects to an external device, such as a cassette, DAT or
MiniDisc player.
3. Pink
Microphone In jack Connects to an external microphone for voice input.
4. Green
Line Out 1 jack Connects to Front Left/Right In of powered analog speakers
or an external amplifier. Also supports headphones.
5. Black
Line Out 2 jack Connects to Rear Left and Rear Right In of powered analog
speakers or an external amplifier.
Ps refer to the user manual or download it from creative.com

Thank you, Peter. I was confused by the terms "front-in." What I am getting
from all this is that I can't leave headphones in the green jack AND use my
speakers since they both need the green jack. Or can I? Can the speakers
use SiS650, or will enabling it prevent the sound card from working??

HI,
The simplest way is to buy a cable (one in two out), but it may deteriorated
the sound quality.
For myself, I connect it from the green port to my HiFi system so that I can
enjoy better and more powerful sound. I can use the headphone jack on the
HiFi system if I want to.
You can also consider to use the orange port to setup a six channels digital
speakers system and then use the green port for headphone.

Use a Y-adapter in the soundcard line out (green) and split the signal to
the headphones and speakers.
Suggest headphones with volume control in the cord and turn it down when
using the speakers so speakers get full signal . Also, you won't blast the
headphones if the WinXp volume is turned up.
