Post subject: Stopping programs from auto starting on boot up
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>security_admin (more info?)

I get several programs that automatically start when I restart the compter.
One is the media player, one is just the explore files. How do I stop them
from doing that? I've looked and looked to no avail

Begin with

Start --> Run

msconfig

Startup tab.

Once you locate where they startup from, act accordingly.

Sorry but msconfig does not operate in the Windows 2000 only for XP

This is the XP forum so it's assumed that when you post, it's related to XP...

For Win2000, a freeware program (actually "donationware") called "Startup Inspector for Windows" should do what you want nicely. I use it in XP but it should work in 2K as well. Check it out below...
