Windows XP doesn't have hardware diagnostics as part of the
operating system. When components are failing/failed you'll get
errors or things will stop working but XP won't post up a msg
like "Your Sound card is failing....". About the only thing that has
some degree of self-monitoring is disk drives that use SMART.
But this is a internal function of the drive, not XP.
There are all kinds of utilities to help isolate problems, some are
built in to XP (DXDiag, Chkdsk).
Diagnostics is still a "Human" responsibility - all the PC can do is
supply clues as to what is wrong.
