Post subject: Transfering files.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

I have two PCs, both running WinXp, one, the OLD machine at SP1, the other
the NEW machine at SP2.

I want to transfer files from OLD to NEW.

I have a BT Voyager 2100 Wireless ADSL router and have connect both PCs to
this via wired LAN (Ethernet) connections.

After having set up network places I am able to transfer files from some
locations but on others I get an error message 'You might not have
permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server (i.e. myself) to find out if you have access permissions'.

I know the LAN is OK, but I don't know how to set permissions on the OLD
machine to allow me to access files from the NEW machine. Ideally I'd like
to be able to transfer any file.

There must be an easy way to do this, but it escapes me.

Any and all suggestions on how to resolve this gratefully accepted.

TIA.
