Hi:
I have WinXP Pro SP-2 & use the classic search, not the search assistant. I
would like to turn ON the autocomplete feature. All I can find is
information how to turn it off or clear old MRUs. Note that since I don't
use the search companion, there is no Change Preferences/Turn autocomplete
on.

Thanks in advance,
Phil

Maybe if you turn on autocomplete in Internet Options, Content tab, it
will turn it on there too.

Thanks, but that's already turned on & working. I even have autocomplete turned
on with the Search Assistant, but that doesn't seem to affect the clasic search.

Hi Phil,

AFAIK, this is a bug in Classic search. The MRU entries are stored under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer Bars\{C4EE31F3-4768-11D2-BE5C-00A0C9A83DA1}\FilesNamedMRU

Each MRU item is stored in separate *values* named 000, 001 and so forth.

But, Windows Explorer does not query those values. Instead it looks for the *keys* named 000.

A glitch that remains unfixed for a very long time.

Note that Auto Complete works fine when using Search Companion.

Thank you so much for this reply, Ramesh. I have read posts by you before indicating that the MRU was stored where you
mentioned, but didn't know if there was a way to have Windows add entries. At least I can stop worrying about it.
