Hi. The icons on my desktop that previously have its icon now appear
to have lose its icon and replaced by the "no icon" icon. This
happens
only to *.lnk files in my start menu too. Each time i clicked on the
icons, nothing happens.

The tasks running next to my clock is also gone. Then a window appear
and says windows cannot open those tasks e.g.

I tried to use System Restore but then the shortcut can't be used too.
If I have to use system restore, how should I run it?

Please help me. Thanks.

Hi Will,

This worked for me!

I had to download the .lnk and the .exe.

Of course I couldn't open regedit.exe because the .exe extension was messed
up. But Good New, Doug had a workaround for that on his site.

So all is back to normal.

Thanks.

Hello again. I forgot to ask. How could all this happen on its own?
Could it be that it was caused by a virus?
I have Lavasoft Adwatch on and each time an attempt to change the
registry occurs (add or delete a registry value; if add, new data:
"xxdataxx"), I'll be prompted to allow or to block it. Of course, not
being very good with these things, either I allow or block it. I don't
even know what I'm doing. I hope I know what I can do when this happen
again.
Really appreciate you people here. Tq.
