I currently have a HP Omnibook 4150 with only one USB
port. I upgraded it to Win XP and now i cannot use the usb
port. The device is an Intel 82371 ab/eb PCI to usb
Universal host controller. If tried reinstalling it,
removing it, auto detecting it and it still it has
the 'yellow exclamation mark' near it reporting an error
code 10. It just won't work. If anyone can help me i would
be greatly appreciative

Thanks

I've got 170 of the damn things - some with and some without this problem. Trouble is, HP don't really support XP being installed on these Omnibooks.

This was their advice today:

[ Tue, Apr 26, 2005 10:27 PM] -- Padmashree Prabhakar
This issue occurs if one of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some manner. If you still choose to install any other Operating then you could download the drivers for your notebook from the below link:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=13401&taskId=135&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=31634&lang=en&cc=us (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lo...e=en_US)

If the issue still persist, please reinstall the Operating System that was shipped with the unit to resolve the issue.

Unfortunately the link doesn't provide support for WinXP.

If you've upgraded your OS, try rolling back the driver in Device manager. If it works, please email me the driver as I've got a whole batch to do!

I installed xp from scratch (formatted and installed) on my omnibook 4150 and nothing at all shows up in the device manager for usb.

I did have a yellow "!" for the serial port until I disabled that but no usb devices.

I will be updating the bios today but other than that I cant think of anything else to do.

Funny thing is that I had Linux (both Fedora and Ubuntu) installed on here before and the USB worked fine with that.

Very Happy I've found the answer which has worked 100% so far on twelve machines.

You've got to flash your BIOS with a copy of Win2000 for the appropriate Omnibook model.

Here's the links for the drivers for the 41xx range
