Hi,

My eldest daughter has a laptop with Windows XP Professional installed on
it. Yesterday, Windows worked just fine, but today upon starting the laptop,
Windows XP refused to start. First, you see the familiar system data,
followed by a black screen. After a while, a message appears on the screen
telling that Windows\system32\config\system is either corrupt or is not
found. Could it be caused by a virus or is it a Windows problem? I have been
trying to start Windows XP directly from CD ROM, but for some reason that
doesn't work. Does one of you have a solution to this problem?

Look forward to receiving your reply.

Best regards,

Peter

I know it doesn't help a great deal but all I can say is "Grrr... OEM!"

I am an avowed full retail product install of the operating system from
henceforth and forthwith

(I am convinced OEM installations play with things they have not really
got a clue about)

Hi Wesley,

Sorry for being awfully late with my reply. The supplier found that 68 Java
programs were stored under Program Files and that all documents (Word, Excel,
etc.) had been erased. They couldn't find the cause of this problem. So, what
I did was re-format the disk and re-install Windows and the entire Office
suite plus McGafee. Hopefully, the problem won't recur.

Thanks for sending your reply!

Best wishes,

Peter

Hi deebs,

Thanks for sending your reply. It appears that 68 Java programs had been
stored under Program Files, causing the deletion of all the documents (Word,
Excel, etc.) on the laptop. Anyway, I re-formatted the disk and re-installed
Office Suite plus McGafee. Hopefully, the problem won't recur Smile.

Hi Sparda,

Thanks for sending your reply. It appears that 68 Java programs had been
stored under Program Files, causing the deletion of all the documents (Word,
Excel, etc.) on the laptop. The supplier did everything to find the cause of
the program, but only found that several Java programs had the same ending,
that is an abbreviation of my daughter's college. Anyway, I re-formatted the
disk and re-installed Office Suite plus McGafee. Hopefully, the problem won't
recur Smile.

Best regards,

Peter
