Hi, I want to protect my PC against this new security
issue with Jpeg files. I have XP home, I don't wish to
install Service Pack 2 as it changes the operating system
significantly. How can I protect my PC against this
potential security breach? When the "Microsoft GDI +
Detection Tool" update takes me to the update page I find
that the only way to prtect my pc from this Jpeg issue is
to install SP2, is this right or is there another way
which I have not noticed?
I hope someone can help
Many thanks!
Rob

You don't want to install SP2, but sooner or later you will. You (IMHO)
might as well do it now and use the time to fix any problems with your other
software it causes. Or is there some known problems with your current
configuration keeping you from installing SP2 (and what are those issues?)

As for your direct question, I guess you did not read the same article as I
did:

<a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-028.mspx" target="_blank">http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-028.mspx</a>

where it has:
Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 - Download the
update (KB833987)
Which goes to:

<a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6F8D70C1-63BD-4213-82C1-20266FDFD735&displaylang=en" target="_blank">http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6F8D70C1-63BD...13-82C1</a>
(Short Link: <a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://snipurl.com/9afh" target="_blank">http://snipurl.com/9afh</a> )

Which is the patch for people still running SP1.

However, if you have any of the other products, better download their
patches too!
(Same first page.)
