Post subject: Windows not finding cd drive
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

I had a cd r and a cdw on my computer (XP Home w/SP2). Both stopped working
two days ago. Device mgr. message "Windows successfully loaded device driver
but cannot find the hardware device (code 41)" Since my computer is 4 years
old I installed a new Sony DVD/CD drive unit to replace both of the old
drives. Windows will not recognise this new drive and I get the same message
in device mgr. The new drive shows in the BIOS. My computer is a custom
build which has been great. Please help.
