Post subject: XP went Blank
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

I was trying to setup my new monitor using a DVI to HDMI plug, although the
tv/Monitor stated it was not capatible. It worked, except the icons were huge
(4"x4"). So I started messing with the display settings which caused my
computer to boot, but once reaching the XP logo, the screen goes black. After
trying many different avenues, I decided to re-install XP. When trying the
repair my current OS didn't work, I did another complete install using a
different sub-directory to keep from losing any of my data. Now I have two
XP's installed and my original OS still goes black. And although the newly
installed version works, I cannot access any of my previous files.
My question is this, when I restart my system it gives me a choice of OS I
want it to run. Clicking on F12 opens up several options, but nothing seems
to work to allow me to repair my original OS. Does anyone know how I can
reset to [default] settings so I can once again access my original OS??

Please help!!

Reinstall to the original folder with a working monitor.
