| Want to make a Windows XP start up disc, where do you go to do this. Laptop
will not boot from install CD. Corrupt system file. Want to reformat the
entire hard drive. Will a start up disc do this for me? Can I put it on a
floppy?

what kind of an XP disk are you trying to boot from??..retail copy or the
Recovery Disk that came with your system??
Are you sure you are booting from the CD...is the CD set as 1st boot in the
BIOS or is it still trying to boot from the HD??
A corrupt file system on the HD should not interfere with you booting off
the XP CD.....once booted you can then delete and rebuild the HD
partition(format) and install XP....

Retail copy, yes I changed the boot order. That's the error message I get
that says Windows will not open because of corrupt system file.

I downloaded start up disks, now I get an error message that says "INF
file txtsetup.sif" is corrupt or missing. I tried all three start up sets,
original, SP1 and SP2. Any suggestions?

I would try a different CD player
The start up set that you need HAS to match the XP CD that you are using for
the install.
A quick Google says that 80% of the time that message is received when a CD
player is faulty....other times the startup floppies dont match the version
of XP being installed....or the txtsetup.sif file did not copy correctly to
the floppy.
Very few times its an MBR problem and if you can access the XP CD hit R for
the recovery console and at the prompt type in fixmbr

All versions of the XP installation CD are bootable. Set the boot order in
your laptop to reflect booting off the CD-Rom device. When you start the
computer pop the XP CD into the drive. You should see a brief message that
says to 'press any key to boot from cd...". After you press a key then XP Cd
should begin running. After you press F8 to accept the license agreement it
will examine the drive and offer you the option to repair your current setup
or do a fresh install of XP
