Suddenly my cd-drive wont recognize a new cd placed in it.
example had a game cd in the drive to play the cd, after ejecting it placing
new cd in the drive and trying to autoun it computer doesnt recognize the new
cd if I try and explore the cd same issue.

rebooting does cure the problem new cd is read properly. Problem is im
triying to install a program requiring multiple cds when it prompts me for
2nd cd the computer does not reconize the cd (as mentioned earlier this
problem is with all cd 's entered not an issue with a specific cd.

any help is appreciated this one has me stumped

I should mention that I just installed the drivers for a dell mp3 player the
only software/ardware change I have made recently. I dont know if this could
be involved.

at this point im looking at formatting since I dont believe its a hardware
issue. Any help would be appreciated.

No, Andrew is a very old XP bug. Try troubleshooting within the differences
between the two, starting with the Dell MP3 player.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I have now uninstalled the del mp3 drivers and software rebooted and the
problem still exists. Anymore tips would be appreciated. I know this worked
recently. The only ideas I have at this point is a system restore or format
reinstall.

I hate to say it but I dont remember when this last worked. I may try
uninstalling all fairly recent programs.

Me too. Yes. I'm also stumped... Start > Run > Regedit > Search for
lowerfilters and upperfilters and delete ANY key found for them and reboot
and Windows will recreate them. Actually, on second thought, listen to any
OTHER advice you get and then try the above.

The first thing I would do is CLEAN IT!
Then try all the other suggestions.

Andrew - have you checked your CD drive manufacturer site
to see if there is any type of support? If not, is your
PC a Dell, HP, etc? Have you checked their support? I
have found many problems with CD drives are best handled
that way - but again YMMV!!

Issue resolved. I did a system restore from the entry before I installed my
dell mp3 player and now I can read cds properly again without rebooting.

thanks for the help
