Post subject: cdrom.sys error

hi,

when ever i try to upgrade from windows 98 or 98SE i get this error saying
cdrom.sys is corrupt, setup will now exit. i start the installation , all
that goes well but after i reboot t has that error. i also get that error
when i do a clean install, what is going on and how can i fix this?

any help would be grateful

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

If you go to location C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386, there is another
copy of the cdrom.sys file. Copy & Paste that one into folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers, overwriting the corrupted file.

Also, did you try booting into the DOS prompt and use the C:\Windows>format
c command to reformat drive?
