Please provide copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the when the error
occurs. No Information Reports please.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

There are no error messages - disk cleaner simply locks up and stops working
- same with defragging and now the STOP virus scan as well. System has been
rebooted several times, programs uninstalled then reinstalled.

Pedro

Update definitions and run full scans full scans with your anti-virus
and anti-spyware programmes.

What happens if you try to run Disk CleanUp in safe mode?

In Safe mode select Start, All Programmes, Accessories, System Tools,
Disk CleanUp.

To start the computer in safe mode

Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click
Shut down.
In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
When you see the message Please select the operating system to start,
press F8.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and
then press ENTER.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the
installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then
press ENTER.

Another way to run Disk CleanUp

Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type cleanmgr, and
then click OK.

Have you made any changes to your installed RAM memory recently?
