Uncheck "Time to display list of Operating systems", make sure windows XP is set as the default OS.

Go to Start => Run and type in msconfig
Click the BOOT.INI tab and click on the Check all boot paths button

Did you delete the partion you had Vista installed on? It might be using the Vista boot loader.

Hello again,

Could you post here your hard drive(s) setup: the number of hard drives; if/how each is partitioned; what exactly is on each partition.

Then go to System Properties again (right-click My Computer => Properties). Click the Advanced tab and in the 'Startup and Recovery' section click the Settings button. In the 'System Startup' section click the Edit button. Copy what you see in the Notepad window that opens up and paste it here.
Important: don't change anything yet.

Well, that's a normal-looking boot loader. It says that you only have a single operating system installed and that it is loaded on the first partition of the first drive which should be your C: drive. The first 4 lines (with the semi-colons) are Remark lines only and don't figure in the boot command. They are leftovers from your Vista dual-boot and can be removed or just left for now.

There is nothing on any of the other partitions, other than perhaps data?

With the timeout at zero are you still getting the dual-boot option screen?

If you're not seeing the boot option screen, if you set the timeout back to, say, 15 seconds, does the boot option screen still come up? (Set the timeout in the 'System startup' section => 'Time to display list of operating systems' box - the way Sparda noted.)

Luck!

If the problem persists and if this is something to do with Vista perhaps someone with more experience than I could help. I once installed the very first release as a dual-boot, but took it out as it was too unstable, and haven't touched it since.

Thankyou Claymore for your time, Yes everthing is set the way you mentioned. I installed Vista on a new HD which is Connected to the ide as slave. I also removed Vista because it was unstable and most of my software was not compatable and no drivers available. Thanks again
