C:\windows\system32\autoexec.net the system file is not suitable for
running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications.

That's correct, depending upon what you mean by "DOS." If it's MS-DOS
6.22 or similar, you cannot run it under XP & even versions back to W95
may want to change it slightly to run it - it will only run intactly &
reliably on a 16-bit DOS OS. Many serious DOS programs were not even
runnable on W95. Command.com & other vital things are different under
later "sort-of" versions of MS-DOS. If u hv an old DOS app you
require, suggest partition & install real DOS. But there can be
complications to sort out with this as well, such as issues with modern
hardware, BIOS, etc.

Another possiblity may be to install & boot both DOS & the app on a
removeable drive. This is also an easier & safer way to see how or if
the app will run before getting carried away with a DOS install. You
can boot & run most removeable drives by enabling Legacy support (if
avail) in the BIOS. Note: if you do this with 6.22, you will *not* be
able to recognize the HD from the DOS session if it has XP's MBR &
partition table, and you must not try to run any of the DOS disk
untilites on the HD.

copy autoexec.nt from c:\windows\repair then paste it to
c:\windows\system32.

I am a new windows Xp user and no offense but I haven't a clue of what you
are talking about. All I know is that before I installed the recommended
updates I could put a disc in and it would run.But now I keep getting the
same error message that Jim spoke of. Sabrina

go to start>run and type

%SYSTEMROOT%\Repair

locate autoexec.nt, right click on autoexec.nt and select copy.

go to start>run and type

%SYSTEMROOT%\System32

right-click anywhere except on a file or folder then select paste.

Good Luck
