Files cannot be deleted - I want to delete XP games ... e.g. mine.exe and sol.exe. I delete them from system32, delete them from prefetch, empty my trash, and go back to Explore. There are the files, still there. I can mark the files as hidden, but that does not get rid of them

Hi,
With no IE windows open, try clearing the History from Control Panel>
Internet Options> General> Clear History.
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323687" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323687</a>

These entries might be in the registry in a TypedURLs key:
157729 - How to Clear the History Entries in Internet Explorer:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q157729" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q157729</a>
For an easier, safer removal method, go to
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm" target="_blank">http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm</a>
and download "DelTypedURL." This INF file will remove ALL entries.

These two freeware programs will remove SOME or ALL entries:
IE Address Bar Editor: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.freesoft.fsnet.co.uk/ieedit01.htm" target="_blank">http://www.freesoft.fsnet.co.uk/ieedit01.htm</a>
EditURLs: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/index.htm" target="_blank">http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/index.htm</a>

You might need to delete the History folder to remove these URLs- a new
History folder will be created on restart.
See: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm" target="_blank">http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm</a>

Free History Eraser from
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm" target="_blank">http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm</a> will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.

Hope this helps,
