Hello,

I am using Outlook Express 6.0 and everytime I am typing a new or reply
email I get an error message that says Outlook has preformed and error and
needs to close. The error message it associated with the Crash Dump file. How
do I change this so I do not get this message anymore? Is there a setting in
the registry to change a registry key so I will not get this message? This is
very frustrating because it has happened when I have worked about an hour or
more writing an email consequently, it never allows me to save what I am
working on and poof! its gone and so is the entire email message I was
composing or replying to. Also, I am using Windows XP SP1, SP2 and Outlook
Express 6.0
I also have all the latest security updates.
Thanks for your help.

Well, first of all, you should never work more than five minutes on a file
without pressing Ctrl-S to save a copy in the Drafts folder.

First eliminate any spyware.
What You Should Know About Spyware
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/devioussoftware.mspx

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stact. Before
you try to remove spyware using any of these programs , download a copy of
LSP-Fix - a free program to repair damaged Winsock 2 stacks (all Windows
versions)
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Winsockfix for W95, W98, ME, NT, 2000, XP

How to Reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP

In WinXP SP2: You can fix Winsock by going to Start | Run and typing
CMD
In the command window type
netsh winsock reset

See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

may be found on this page:

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.

Might want to review this Knowledge Base article for some possible help:

Outlook Express 6.0 stops responding or unexpectedly quits, and you may
receive a "Microsoft Outlook Express has encountered a problem and needs to
close" error message:

I downloaded KB900930 for Windows XP SP2, and it does not help with Outlook
Express 6.0 stopping or quitting; I still get the message about OE
encountering "a problem and needs to close" error.

The thread to which you replied dates from two and a half years ago!
