In Windows 2000 active directory Exchange 5.5 was running fine. Now
Exchange5.5 made offline and not available now. When I try to install
Exchange 2003 in this Active directory it is now allowing me to install. Can
anybody throw light on this issue?

Best Regards,
Sathya

Hello Sathya,

What error message did you get? And also will you start from scratch or upgrade
the old system?

Best regards

When I try to prepare forest prep in the Action menu of exchange
installation:-

The component "Microsoft Exchange Forest Preparation" cannot be assigned the
action "ForestPrep" because: - To install the first Exchange server in a
domain, or to run setup in "/ForestPrep" mode, you must be an Exchange Full

This is the error; how to go about now.

Hello Sathya,

What is this ip used for 202.56.230.5 in the netdiag. Also again what is
about the old exchange installation. Still there, removed or will you upgrade
it?

Best regards

Dear Meinolf Weber,

202.56.230.5 is my ISP DNS. Old exchange removed - I don't know the
whereabouts of it.

Best Regards,
Sathya

Hello Sathya,

Ok, so lets first get out all errors from the diagnostics. Is the ISP's DNS
set as a forwarder under the DNS management console or configured on a NIC
of a server? Seems for me the last option.

Best regards

Hello Sathya,

Please change it in the DNS management console of your DNS server properties.
There you will find a forwarders tab, if the content is greyed out you have
to delete the .zone first, close the console and reopen it. Then you are
aible to fill the in ip address. Other wise you will have problems with correct
internal domain name resolving. Domain internal DNS configuration has always
only use the internal DNS server and the ISP has to setup as forwarder. So
only the DNS server will connect to the outside world.

Best regards

Meinolf Weber

Hello Sathya,

You can not have 2 times the same domain name and connect them together.
Or is one a test domain?

Best regards

Dear Meinolf,

Yes, I have now same domain name in one network.

First Forest and main domain and first domain controller is SMS.ifmrnt.com.
This is used for authentication.

Separate Forest and separate domain and first domain controller in this
domain is ifmrnet.ifmrnt.com. This is having MS exchange server 2003; Now we
are creating two accounts on the ifmrnt.com. One for AD and one for Exchange.

Trust relationship ifmrnet ---> Trusts SMS. Domains that trust this domain -
ifmrrnet.ifmrnt.com;Domain name-ifmrnet;Relationship-Non-Windows Kerbros
Realm; Transitive-No.

I hope I had cleared the doubt. Write to me for guidance.

Now I am trying to correct and install the Exchange in the production
domain; sms.ifmrnt.com. I can tell my management to bear the loss of internal
exchange(ifmrnet.ifmrnt.com - to be switched off for proper correction of
SMS.ifmrnt.com).

Best Regards,
Sathya
