For some strange reason instead of Outlook Express opening with the Inbox
selected as set by Tools, Options, General and by the tick in the default
opening page that selects "When opening go directly to the Inbox" OE always
now opens with the default main page if the Main Identity is used. However
by setting up a second identity and selecting to open using that, it opens
correctly with the Inbox displayed. This has recently started happening and
no matter how many times I set and reset the options, it always opens with
the default.
I did post this question to
Microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.outlookexpress.wishlist
but I now see that it is a newsgroup that is seldom accessed, so I am
reposting here.
I use Windows XP Pro SP2 fully updated and OE 6.00.2900.2180
Glad of any help.

Import your messages to the second Identity and delete the main Identity.
The Registry has become corrupted when a setting won't stick.

Launch regedit, go to registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{identity_number}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0
and find here dword value "Launch Inbox" - set its value to 1.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your prompt replies. On receiving the suggestion from Mr. Roy
Summer that my main identity had been corrupted I deleted it and the problem
was solved. I am getting too old for all this, fancy missing the obvious
about a corrupted identity. Never mind, maybe I will remember if it should
happen again. Sadly I have enough problems remembering my own name so if I
post the same question in a few months, I hope you will be patient.
Thanks again.
DES.
