Anyone know how to get back the correct ICON in Internet Explorer 6
(NT4 SP6) on the desktop. Since it's not a shortcut there is no way to
do it from the desktop. What it shows now is the ICON with the sheet
of paper with the windows logo on it. IE still works fine if you click
on it. I am thinking it's something in the Registry thats incorrect.
Anyone have any idea's?

Bob

Open Regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}\DefaultIcon

Set the default value to:
shdoclc.dll,-190

or if you're using IE 7:
ieframe.dll,-190

Or you can download/merge this reg file:
http://www.divshare.com/download/46737-e0a

Good Luck, Ayush.

In Regedit, go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}
and delete the whole key ( 871 .. ) or the DefaultIcon subkey then refresh the desktop.

Good Luck, Ayush.

If your Desktop icons are broken and you need to rebuild them, find the
ShellIconCache file in the %systemroot% directory and delete it. It's a
hidden file, so you'll have to select Show All Files in Windows Explorer
(View | Folder Options | View tab). When you log off and log back on, the
icons will be rebuilt from scratch. The ShellIconCache file maintains a copy
of all Desktop objects' icons to expedite the screen redraws, and the file
may become corrupt.

shelliconcache.
Well back to searching the registry. There has to be something
somewhere.

shelliconcache is part of the operating system and has to be there.
