Post subject: Keyboard has gone haywire - Help!

Hi everybody
I have been trying to fix this problem for the past few days and couldn't
find much on the WWW that could help - so I'm resorting to posting a question
online as it seems that the problem is unique.
Few days ago, I decided to clean my laptop's keyboard by disinfecting them.
I basically used an antibacterial wipe tissue, but because I was rubbing each
key one by one, it must have caused the system to go haywire.
Now, everytime I press 'm', the number '0' comes up. Likewise:
u = 4
i = 5
o = 6
I don't know what to do - is there someone who could help me? |

If you really believe that what ever you did "it must have caused the system
to go haywire" then you could run System Restore and roll-back a couple of
days to a time BEFORE you had the problem. This will restore the keyboard
back to its original settings.
On the other hand however, assuming that is *ALL* you were doing to cause
the problem - i.e. working on the keyboard *only* - then it is highly likely
that you've damaged your keyboard beyond economical repair and it just isn't
worth any further attempts to repair it (especially as you felt the need to
disinfect it!).
A brand new replacement keyboard can be bought for as little as a few $ from
most PC retailers (and even some supermarkets). At least there should be no
need to disinfect a brand new one!

I just corrected a similar problem with my keyboard having a mind of it's own.
It seems i had a "Trojan Horse" virus in my "System Restore". My anti-virus
caught the (2) infections while scanning with the "Windows" Malicious
Software scan" (which by itself did not find anything but my own anti virus
software did during the scan). I sent the infections to the vault then
deleted them. I then deleted all the system restore points in my PC and set a
new restore point.
My keyboard works fine now.

PS : My operating system is XP and my keyboard is wireless.

Any file in the System Restore archive whether Win Me, XP or Vista is
benign, that is inactive, UNTIL or UNLESS you subsequently restore the
system to a checkpoint where that file was present. Clearing the SR
archive after cleaning malware is certainly sensible but the malware, be
it keylogger or some other nasty, isn't operative whilst in the archive.

The orignial poster's problem was probably that Num Lock was enabled
on his keyboard.

hi i was wondering what virus protection program you have. i have the same
problem but cannot find the virus with my program.

If so, and as you are some three months down the line from the original
post - and the replies!! - did you see the suggestion from Steve Winograd to
check that the 'Num-Lock' wasn't enabled.
