Hello,

Firmware 1.46.2 WinMe on a cable connection. One computer only.

Seven years after the purchase of my first system (including this router -
set-up by an acquaintance) I learn (via 'setup' in these forums and from a
post by Mike M) of an error in configuration.

This has left me with questions. Since I understand very very little about
networking/routers and their settings I am wondering whether there are other
errors in configuration.

Under Filters.

PPTP Pass Through: Enable
Remote Management: Disable Port: 8080
Remote Upgrade: Disable
MTU: Disable Size: 1500
Filter Internet NAT Redirection: Enable
Filter IDENT(port 113): Disable

Appreciate guidance on the above and, if deemed necessary, I will post with
the configurations of other pages.

Thank-you.

Ben.

Ben,

Out of curiosity what configuration error did I mention in a previous post
that you picked up on? It's not as if I often post about networking and
the like having as I do enough odd networking problems of my own although,
admittedly not with Win Me nor with my router.

Cheers,

Mike M

Hello Mike,

May I quote your post?

"I have no knowledge of how you connect to the internet but if using ADSL
or cable the very first thing I would do would be to use a router even if
only using a single PC. Enable NAT (Network Address Translation) on the
router and this will provide a very effective firewall, so good in fact
that this no longer becomes a major issue with the OS however if you want
both belt and braces suitable firewalls commonly used that work reasonably
well with Win Me are early versions of Kerio, formerly Tiny, (v2.1.5 works
well with Win Me)
and Zone Alarm (versions up to and including 6.1.744.001)"

From the setup forum in answer to Tony1966. It is still the last post "Yea
Thanks Microsoft" on the 03/07/2007 @1123AM

Thanks, Mike.

Ben.
