Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>inetexplorer>ie6>browser (more info?)

I'm a web designer and have just started having a strange issue with IE 6 and
7. Anytime I try to download an mp3 file from the web, it saves it as an mpeg
movie file and only gets part of it at that. I can't figure it out. It seems
to do that on various people's computers, not just mine. I have one client
that it does the same thing but another that can download fine in IE.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this to happen? Its a recent
occurance and I'm not sure if its asscoiated with a recent update or not.

Here is one page in particular that I've been struggling with:
http://www.saveourtrain.com/song There is a link in the middle to the mp3.
But i tested other mp3's and all do the same thing.

Thanks!
Nancy

Did you read the Notice at the bottom of page you sited?

"IMPORTANT: This file is an 3.5 meg mp3 file.
If it downloads as a "partial mpeg" you may need to use Firefox as the
browser to download it.
This is an issue that we have yet to resolve as for many it downloads fine
as an mp3.
Get Firefox Free Here:http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/"

It clearly states the issue you are describing, but only offers Firefox as a
resolution for the issue.

If you have QuickTime installed you might try the following:

Open the QuickTime player and click on Edit||Preferences||QuickTime
Preferences||Browser(tab)||Mime Settings...
Remove the checkmarks in the boxes next to "mpeg media", "mpeg audio", "mp3
audio" and "mp3 playlist".
Click Apply.

Then click on the file types(tab) and remove the checkmarks from "mpeg
audio" and "mp3 audio" boxes and click Apply.

Now open the Windows Media Player and click on Tools||Options||File
Types(tab), remove all the checkmarks in all the boxes and click Apply, then
close the Windows Media Player.

ReOpen the Windows Media Player and click on Tools||Options||File Types(tab)
and click the "Select All" button then Apply.

Good luck,

Then open Windows
