Post subject: driver .INF file
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsnt>registry (more info?)

Hello,

I got a Firewire camera and I want to run it with a specific driver that I
got from a different location. They work together well but I got a small
issue when installing the driver :

When I plug in the camera, Windows installs automaticaly its generic native
driver. I then must change the driver manually by specifying where to find
the correct INF file. Of course, this must be done only once.

But I need to do this operation for each of my customers who bought my
camera. I am looking for a way to change automatically the driver: by
running a program, for example.

Naively I thought that select à INF file in windows explorer and then
select 'Install' in the contextual popup menu would do the job. But it does
nothing....

I suppose now, that it is normal; that this 'Install' command is valid only
for INF files meant at installing applications and not drivers.
Please, someone can confirm this ?

May someone tell me what would be the easiest way to automatically install
my driver ? Is it possible to register in advance the driver in Windows and
then plug in the camera ?

Thanks in advance,
Jean-Marie Epitalon
