Need help setting up user profiles in Windows 2003 and TS

Post subject: Need help setting up user profiles in Windows 2003 and TS

Hi,

Please advice how to setup correct user profiles. I have on 2003 server
setup as AD (Server1) and another server running 2003 as TS (Server2).
All clients logon on their XP workstations and then starts the TS
sessions.

As off today their workstation profiles are saved locally (not on
Server1) and their TS profiles are save on Server2 under c:\Documents
and Settings\USER, is this a correct setup, and what are this user
profile called (mandatory etc???)

Hi Pal,

the Win XP users has local profile son their workstations. If server2 is the
TS the users have local TS profiles as well. If the TS is the server1 they
have server saved profiles. Mandatory is, if you rename the profile file
ntuser.dat into ntuser.man. In this case the user can't change anything on
the file.

Server save dprofiles are configured in a group policie, so that the profile
is everytime loaded, a users logs into a terminial server or a client. After
the logoff the file is written back to the server where the files are
hosted.

Do you need mor einformation?

Thanks for your reply, and sorry for my late reply.

Yes all XP clients have local user profiles and Server 2 is the TS
server, where also the users have local profiles.

Have some very strange problems, each day after all user logg off the
TS and then try to logg on again their profile are gone, if i reboot
bot server 1 and server 2 all the profiles are restored by the system,
and tips on how to solve this problem?

Hi Paal,

in this case I would use the Roaming Profiles. This means, that you have a
share on your fileserver where you store the profiles. Everytime the user
logs in the profile is loaded from the fileserver. You should ask for help
of a consultant because this is not easy to setup all the profiles and
redirections etc. It needs to be planned.
