I have an old server that I can till ping by name and when I do a nslookup of
the iP address it returns the old name. This old server hasn't been in use
in years. Another server has this iP address. I can't find it in DNS or
Wins. Where else could it be?

Is there a hosts or lmhosts file with the record? How about the reverse
zone?

Dear Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

To narrow down the issue's scope and indentify whether it is a server side
or client side issue, would you please collect following information?

1.Is there a record of the old server in both Forward and Reverse lookup
zone on DNS server?

2. Can another client ping the old server hostname and FQDN successfully?

3.Is there a record of the old server name in the
host(C:\%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) file on the client side?

4.Is there Dynamic update enabled on DNS server?

5. Is DNS suffix the same as your DNS zone name on the new server?

6. Are the two checkbox "Register this connection's address in DNS" and
"Use this connection's DNS suffix in DNS registration" selected in TCP/IP
configuration on the new server?

I hope this helps. If there is anything unclear, please feel free to post
here again.
